Whether you can give a few hours a month or a few days a week, your time and talents help keep Mathews County's stories alive. From greeting visitors to guiding school groups to working behind the scenes with our collection, there's a place for you here.

We'll teach you everything you need to know. After you reach out, a member of our team follows up to learn about your interests and availability, and we provide orientation and training tailored to your role.

How do I get started?
Reach out about a specific opening above, or email us if you’re not sure where you fit. We'll set up a short conversation and orientation.
How much time do I need to commit?
As much or as little as works for you. Some volunteers help a few hours a month; others come weekly or for special events. We'll find a fit for your schedule.
Do I need experience?
Not at all. We provide training for every role. Curiosity and a willingness to help are all you need to start.
Can students earn internship credit?
Often, yes. Our internships can sometimes be arranged for academic credit. Reach out and we'll work with you and your school.
